Lockerbie Elementary School

Circulating Knowledge: A Contemporary Node in a Historic Fabric

Lockerbie Elementary School is thoughtfully designed to support a project-based learning environment, where education thrives through movement, collaboration, and curiosity. Its looped circulation was an inventive response to modern school safety concerns, minimizing dead ends and creating clear, continuous paths that enhance visibility and ease of movement. This design not only supports collaboration among students and faculty but also contributes to a more secure and connected school environment. Positioned between the historic St. Mary’s Catholic Church and The Rathskeller, the school acts as an architectural bridge, both honoring its surroundings and reinterpreting them with fresh intent. The result is a building that confidently stands on its own, while harmoniously integrating with its rich urban context.
